Welcome to Happy Ship's eternally outdated little nook in the web. We are a small 3D studio situated in the northern parts of The Netherlands, where we make short films and gags, produce VFX for movies and TV, and plan for our really big things.

For our recent commercial work you're better off at the Planet X FX site, our partner in the Visual Effects business. On this page we present a collection of our own projects.

Olaf (2010)

happy little cannon

We're extremely proud to announce that our latest project, the short film Olaf, has premiered at The Dutch Film Festival (NFF) on the 25th of September (2010). After 5 years of working on it, in-between other projects, it's a great feeling to have it finally traveling the world. The coming year he'll be touring the festival circuit.

One date of note may be the 15th of May, 2011, as we'll be organizing a free viewing of the film in the Grand Theatre in Groningen, with drinks and silly things. Spiffy news!

Olaf is a fairytale about a young cannon, living a carefree life in a small town. One day, on his 14th birthday, he suddenly discovers the more destructive side of being a cannon. He feels forced to leave his damaged friends behind, and go out into the world in search of an elegant solution to his devastating problem.

What happens next we will leave to the movie to explain.

Past Projects
De Ruimtewacht (Spacewatch, 2006)
An incredibly fun thing we did in 2006 was build a spaceship inside a van, complete with controls to operate it, a storyline that changed with each performance, and a real life captain.
De Huiskamer (The Livingroom, 2008)
A video-installation we did for an exhibition on art and animation, where we played with the concept of control in everyday media.
De Behandelkamer (The Surgery, 2004)
An installation for the exhibition Happy Go Lucky, where we proclaimed with bitter seriousness that you should take literally anything with a pinch of salt.
Zephyr (2002)
Our first forray (in 2002) into the field of special FX for Science Fiction. Zephyr is a 20 minute feature mostly taking place in the debris-filled area around a desolate planet. Read all about it on this page.
Camiel - Maybe (2002)
Happy Ship made this videoclip for artist Camiel, featuring a little toaster-like robot and his quest for affection. You can read about the project and download the clip here.
The Joust - a tale of direction
Our first short film 'The Joust' is already an oldie. We made it in the final quarter of 2000, but it is still being asked for. Check the Joust pages for some background info, stills, storyboards, and of course the movie itself.
Demoreel 2002
We had to gather some of our stuff to show to a company, took it a wee bit too seriously, and ended up creating a serious 3:24 demoreel! Some old and new stuff in here, enjoy!
AC3D
We animated the 3D alterego's of popduo Arling & Cameron to go with their live show.
