Zephyr 5th in Animago awards
Zephyr, the 20 minute dutch science fiction movie Happy Ship did the animations for, has won 5th place overall, out of a 1140, in the Animago awards 2003! That means the first statuette is a fact! :) Zephyr also won first place in student-compositing and professional-animation Science Fiction categories.

We'll be offering some more insights into the project soon, meanwhile, if you want to get a taster of the project, a short teaser promo clip can be downloaded here (8.0Mb Quicktime, right-click to download), and the Animago trailer, featuring a lot of the SFX shots of the film, can be found here (17.5Mb, Quicktime, right-click to download).

Margreet was so kind to give our site a major checkup and update, THANKS! There's still a few minor gaps to fill, and we're still in the process of getting it all online, but that's something to be realised soon enough.

Long time no news, eh? Happy Ship is just finishing up the last frames of their share in the special FX of a project touted as 'the first science fiction movie of the Netherlands': Zephyr.
A 23 minute full-blown science fiction movie by Dennis Kleijn and Synco Scholvink. Happy Ship took care of all the 3D animation and rendering. For a quick preview, go to www.zephyr-film.com and check the promo movie. We'll be providing some extra information on this site ASAP.

I uploaded the ChanLum shader as a free download to the lab. It also seems that no-one has discovered the secret Puppeteer page yet. How sweet :)

Added the lab. section to the site (see above) because I had some pleasent results experimenting with a shader.

the Joust featured on mxstream
People in the Netherlands probably know what mxstream is: KPN's version of ADSL. They currently feature the Joust on their homepage (www.mxstream.nl) so if you have a fast internet connection, there's really no excuse NOT to look at the Joust anymore - it comes screaming onto your monitor via this site. We made a deal with them to keep them updated on our Kosmotroniks progress this year, so you can expect more about our latest project from their homepage as well...

Apart from whishing all of you a very happy 2002, this is also an excellent date to put this site online! Not everything we want to show is available yet, but we hope you'll be having fun withwhat IS here nevertheless. Also, if you have any thoughts, comments or suggestions about the site, please let us know.

Started a major site revision. We have received so many complaints about our previous site, notes saying 'under construction' posted everywhere, that I decided NEVER to begin designing a site with all the buttons in place, but none of the content taken care of again. Hence the somewhat basic text-only links above :)

Demoreel
Happy Ship has a demo-reel! It's a wonder in itself, as we were always much too busy to even think of one (same with our website :). But some companies asked us for a quick and dirty overview of our work, so we started gathering, decided to simply string the bits together, ended up even adding a tune to it (thank you Arling & Cameron!) and ended up with an actual demo reel! Some copyright issues need to be resolved before we offer it online, but that shouldn't take too long.
No Subtitles
Happy Ship provided video-mix material for an experimental multimedia production called No Subtitles, by the Combustion Chamber Ensemble in co-operation with LowRes Media.
Kosmotroniks
(men doing absolutely fine with their ludicrous metal contraptions)
We started preparations for our next short film. It's going to be somewhat of a musical piece, introducing the world of Kosmotroniks. We plan to finish it somewhere mid-2002, but of course can't make any promises yet. As we decided to totally redesign the 'human' characters of the Kosmotroniks universe, there's still a lot to be done.
Arling & Cameron
Happy Ship did the stage-show animations for the popular duo Arling & Cameron. Their virtual alter-ego's were modelled by MeniThings, LA., but we took care of develloping their on-screen character and their animation. In total, did about 10 minutes of character animation for their latest tour, as well as an endlesslooping ('original' content about 3 minutes) piece used in their art-expo-CD-presentation at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
