The popular popduo Arling & Cameron, asked Happy Ship to animate their digital alter-ego's AC3D. These were modelled in their image by Aristomenis Tsirbas of MeniThings, LA.
For Arling & Cameron's live act, we animated AC3D saying a word of welcome to the audience, and trying to get them into the spirit of the gig. The main challenge was to animate them, in full facial closeup, as somewhat shy individuals. Very subtle animation was required. So it was extremely nice to see a whole audience reacting to the pre-rendered animation as if they were on stage, answering their silly questions enthousiastically. Also, AC3D finished off the show with a gentle goodbye speech, and took a fair bit of applause.
At the art-expo annex CD-presentation 'We Are Showing' in Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, where Arling & Cameron presented their latest CD 'We are A & C', AC3D re-appeared, greeting the visitors from a monitor at the entrance of the exhibition.

Detailled control over facial expressions was necessary, considering the characters were in closup most of the time and needed pretty realistic lip-sync.
