The Story
In an overcrowded city, populated by a stereotypical collection of humans with snipped-out-of-a-catalog masks for faces, the main character feels lost and useless having a big, heavy questionmark for a head. Choices in this world seem to be none more challenging than answering multiple-choice questions. The clip is about the day that this character finally makes up his mind as to how to fit in with this reptetitive world.
Production
The filming of this clip was a combination of many bluescreen shots and a full set for the main character's living-box. The rest of the city was built up totally out of photographs by DENNIS&WOUTER. Repetition being a main theme, single characters were shot in bluescreen and duplicated over the frame many times. A headband was used for tracking their movement and placing the masks, which were photographed seperately.
The main character had to put up with having a blue mask and balaclava for every shot, so his head and neck could be removed. The questionmark itself was then hand-tracked into the image.
Happy Ship was responsible for the questionmark and the traffic for this clip. Though you may be fooled by this, the whole city was actually composited fully in 2D by DENNIS&WOUTER.
